Blended Learning Tutorial – Canvas

Canvas

This Tutorial explores educational technology (Canvas Course (Learning) Management System) that can help educators create blended learning environment. As discussed in this tutorial, a modern LMS performs three important educational functions:

  1. Facilitates the consistent delivery of course content;
  2. Provides a structure for course management; and
  3. Provides the educational institution with powerful tools for curriculum development, communication, collaboration, calendaring and task management automation.

If you want to learn how to implement it in your classroom, explore this resource.

Google Apps Tutorial for Math & Science Education

https://sites.google.com/site/gafetutorialg3/

It is an excellent online tutorial on how to use Google Apps (Google Drive, etc.) in mathematics and science classroom.

Khan Academy and Flipped Classroom in STEM

KhanAcademy

This is a different approach to an Professional Development Resource for science and mathematics teachers. This is a YouTube Channel that focuses on the Khan Academy and the opportunities to create Flipped Classrooms. This channel was created as part of the ETEC 533 graduate course on Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning through Technology. The purpose of this tutorial is to help students and teachers to utilize this FREE resource in their classrooms. The video clips are very short and will allow you to choose the topic that you would like to learn more about. Flipped Classrooms are becoming more and more popular and we just recently had a Flipped Classroom Conference in British Columbia: http://www.canflip.ca/

Exploring GeoGebra – a Free Modeling Software

This is another excellent resource for teachers who want to help students understand mathematics (both algebra and geometry) at a much deeper experiential level. This FREE resource that teachers and students can use both inside and outside of mathematics and science classrooms will be great for both mathematics and science courses, where students are required to make sense of mathematical relationships. The resource comes with lots of great ideas for activities, interactive tutorials and detailed instructions on how to get started. The learning curve for this resource is very steep (which means it takes very little time to get started).

Student Response Systems Tutorial for Math and Science Teachers

This is another excellent tutorial created by the mathematics and science teachers in the Educational Technology in Mathematics and Science Graduate course (ETEC 533) at UBC Master in Educational Technology Program. This tutorial will help teachers get started with Student Response Systems often referred to as clickers. As you will see in the tutorial, you do not need clickers today to engage your students. As long as the students have cell phones, they can do it through text messaging. This tutorial, however, it will also discuss low tech option. It is an excellent companion to the MSTLTT Database.

Edmodo in Mathematics & Science Classroom

Edmodo

Another excellent resource for mathematics and science teachers created by UBC’s ETEC 533 graduate students is Edmodo Tutorial. Edmodo is a Course Management System used today in many classrooms. If you think you would like to know what it is and how it might work for your classroom, please check it out. This tutorial is very user-friendly and will save you lots of time and maybe will provide you with a great tool to try new year.

Using iPADs in Mathematics and Science

Summer is the best time to explore new technologies and learn new things you might want to try next year in your classroom. This friendly tutorial on the use of iPads in elementary mathematics and science classroom was created by the graduate students (who are also mathematics and science teachers) in ETEC 533 summer graduate course – a graduate course in an online Master of Educational Technology Program at UBC. This engaging tutorial will be a great start for new and more experienced mathematics and science teachers who want to use iPads in their classrooms.
